Klay Thompson posts touching farewell to Warriors, fans after Mavericks move – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Klay Thompson has officially retired from the Golden State Warriors and Dub Nation, marking the end of an era.

The four-time NBA champion posted a heartfelt message on his Instagram page on Friday afternoon, thanking the franchise and its fans for the memories of the past 13 years.

“Oh Bay Area, there aren’t enough words and pictures to express how I truly feel about you guys,” Thompson wrote, in part. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the best times of my life. It was such an honor to put on that Dubs jersey from day 1. I just wanted to be the best I could be and help bring as many championships to the region as possible. …

“Don’t be sad that it’s over, be glad that it happened. Till we meet again. Sea captain out.”

Attached to the post were 10 photos and videos from Thompson’s time in the Bay, including a photo from the night he was drafted in 2011; a photo with the Warriors’ dynastic trio of Steph Curry, Draymond Green and himself; a video of his beloved dog, Rocco, walking through the Warriors’ tunnel and, of course, a sweet video from a cruise on the Bay.

Thompson agreed to join the Dallas Mavericks, teaming up with Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving in a five-team sign-and-trade deal that marked the end of a historic Warriors dynasty that changed the game of basketball.

Thompson’s career with the Warriors is over after 13 NBA seasons and four championships, but as his final social media post shows, the memories and legacy he left in the Bay will live on forever.
