Cash or debit card?
The company confirmed that Target will no longer accept personal checks as payment in its stores starting at the end of this month.
The major Minnesota-based retailer will stop accepting checks this month due to “extremely low volumes” of such payments, a spokesperson told NBC Chicago.
The company has taken “several measures” to inform customers in advance, the spokesperson said.
The change will go into effect on July 15, after Target’s popular Circle Week sales event ends.
While personal checks are no longer accepted, the store still accepts cash, credit and debit cards, Target Circle Cards, digital wallets, SNAP/EBT cards and pay later/buy now services, Target said.
The Post has reached out to Target for comment.
The move comes after the retail giant rolled out a series of cost-saving measures after it said it was struggling with theft.
In March, Target implemented a 10-item limit for customers using self-checkout lanes.
Just last week, Target instructed store employees to stop thieves who tried to flee with $50 worth of items, up from $100 previously.
Michael Fiddelke, Target’s chief financial officer, told investors last fall that the company expects shoplifting to be a “significant financial headwind.”
