Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 finally get limited dust resistance

Yet another leak has surfaced for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6, detailing all the specs and features of the upcoming foldable phones, including the long-awaited arrival of dust resistance.

Samsung’s foldable phones have never had real, measurable dust resistance until now. The Galaxy Z Flip and Fold 2 introduced brushes in the hinge to keep out dirt, but they don’t always work. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 then introduced water resistance.

According to marketing images leaked by Evan Blass (@evleaks) via a Substack newsletter, Samsung is finally improving its strategy this year.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 both apparently have IP48 dust and water resistance. That means water resistance (the second digit) remains unchanged, but dust resistance is available for the first time. A rating of four on the IP rating scale means the device is protected from dirt larger than 1mm (0.039 inches). That still leaves a fair bit of room for dust to sneak in, and frankly, it probably won’t That much stronger than previous generations, but it’s finally a step forward.

Additionally, the marketing images confirm almost all the specifications and features of Samsung’s upcoming foldable phones.

Starting with the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Samsung is highlighting its lighter weight, which comes in at 239 grams. That’s down from the Fold 5’s 253 grams. The internal display is said to be 1.5x brighter at 2600 nits. The cameras are unchanged, though Samsung does tout improvements made by AI. The materials also mention some improvements to battery life thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 inside. There’s no increase in battery capacity. The hardware itself uses aluminum instead of titanium, and the external display uses Gorilla Glass Victus 2 instead of Armor. That means the two big upgrades from the Galaxy S24 Ultra won’t be making their way to the Fold, despite rumored price hikes.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 gets some notable upgrades. It’s still made of aluminum, but has a 50MP camera, as a leak earlier today suggested . It also gets a vapor chamber, a first for the Flip series, for improved cooling. The battery is also bigger, at 4,000mAh, up from 3,700mAh. Despite that, the device is actually 0.2mm thinner than the Flip 5 when closed.
