Hatch recalls nearly 1 million baby monitor power adapters due to shock hazard

Hatch Baby, a popular brand among new parents, has recalled nearly one million power adapters sold with its Rest 1st generation sound machines because some parts posed an electric shock hazard.

According to the company, the plastic housing around the AC adapter for certain audio devices may detach when the plug is unplugged, “exposing the plugs and posing a potential electrical shock hazard to consumers,” according to the recall notice issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recall affects approximately 919,400 units sold in the United States and approximately 44,352 units sold in Canada with model number CYAP05 050100U. The model number, 1.0A amp, “Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co. LTD” and “Made in China” are printed in black near the pins of the adapter.

The affected power adapters have a white rectangular plastic housing that plugs directly into a wall socket and are not available for purchase separately.

The recall comes after the company received 19 reports of the power adapters’ defective housings, including two reports of consumers experiencing a mild electric shock.

Hatch is urging anyone in possession of the affected power adapters to immediately stop using them and contact the company for a free replacement.

Consumers should cut the cord from the power adapter, take a photo of the cut cord with the model number on it, and upload the photo to Hatch’s website under the “adapter recall” page, along with their name and mailing address.

The CPSC also said Hatch is contacting all registered owners directly.
