FOR TONIGHT TOO. DOUG. SPEAKING OF WHICH, CINDY, THIS IS A SHOCK IN A MARBLEHEAD THE CITY HAS TO CANCEL TONIGHT’S FIREWORKS BECAUSE THE BOAT THEY ARE ON CAME ON FIRE TONIGHT. IF YOU LOOK AT THIS PHOTO ON THE HORIZON, DO YOU SEE THE ORANGE? THAT’S THE FIRE. THE SMOKE STREAMING DOWN TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THAT PHOTO ON THE HORIZON. OH, REALLY? WAS AN AMAZING SPOTLIGHT TONIGHT. MATT MATT REED FROM THE EYEOPENER IS LIVE ON MARBLEHEAD NOW. SO, MATT, THIS IS SOME DISAPPOINTING NEWS TO WAKE UP TO ON THE FOURTH ANTOINETTE AND DOUG. I SPOKE TO THE GENTLEMAN WHO LIVES NEXT DOOR A SHORT TIME AGO. HE HAD AN UNFORTUNATE FRONT ROW SEAT AT THE FIRE THIS MORNING. THAT’S THE BOAT THAT BURNED DOWN OVER THERE. AND THE GENTLEMAN TOLD ME THAT HE HEARD EXPLOSIONS DURING THE NIGHT WHILE THE CREW WERE TRYING TO TAKE THE FIRE OFF. LET US SHOW THE VIDEO FROM EARLIER THIS MORNING. IT ALL HAPPENED AROUND ONE THIS MORNING HERE AT THE MOUTH OF THE HARBOUR WHERE YOU ARE STANDING NOW IN CHANDLER HOVEY PARK. IF YOU’RE FAMILIAR WITH THE AREA AND THIS IS THE AREA WHERE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WERE GOING TO WATCH THE FIREWORKS TONIGHT, THAT’S OBVIOUSLY NOT GOING TO HAPPEN BECAUSE OF THIS FIRE. IN ADDITION TO THE MARBLEHEAD FIRE DEPARTMENT, YOU HAD THE HARBOR MASTER, BEVERLY FIRE, MASSACHUSETTS, THE COAST GUARD ALL ON THE SCENE. THIS GENTLEMAN I JUST SPOKE TO, HE’S ACTUALLY SITTING IN THE FRONT ROW AND SAID THIS WAS THE AREA WHERE THERE WAS SOME KIND OF COMMAND CENTER GOING ON. THIS NEIGHBOR TELLS ME HE TOLD THE HARBOR MASTER, LISTEN, TAKE A DEFENSIVE POSITION. JUST LET IT BURN, THERE WAS NO WAY TO EXTINGUISH IT. SO THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED. AS FOR THE CAUSE, THAT IS UNKNOWN AT THIS TIME. AND THAT IS ONE OF THE REASON THAT THE MARBLEHEAD FIREWORKS WEBSITE SAYS THEY CAN’T GO AHEAD TONIGHT BECAUSE THEY DON’T KNOW THE CAUSE. AND CLEARLY THERE IS A BIG SUPPLY PROBLEM AGAIN HERE. YOU CAN SEE THE BARGES IN THE WATER. I SAID IT BEFORE. NOW THAT THE SUN IS SHINING, MORE BOATERS ARE COMING OUT TO GO OUT THERE TO SEE THE BOAT. CLEARLY THEY HAVE QUESTIONS AND AS YOU SAY ANTOINETTE A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT FOR MARBLEHEAD AND THE FACT THAT NEIGHBOUR TOLD ME WE HAD FOG LAST YEAR. SO THIS WOULD BE THE FIRST YEAR. THE LAST TWO THEY WERE ABLE TO SEE THE FIREWORKS. CLEARLY WE WILL STICK TO THE STORY AND BRING ANY UPDATES FOR

An annual fireworks show in Marblehead, Massachusetts, has been canceled after a ship caught fire, organizers said. The Marblehead Fire Department responded to a ship at the mouth of the harbor just after 1 a.m. Thursday morning, the department said. The harbor master, Beverly Fire Department, state environmental police and the U.S. Coast Guard were all on the scene to battle the fire. “The fire marshal is not allowing our vendor to discharge fireworks until it is determined what caused the ship to catch fire,” Marblehead Fireworks and Harbor Illumination said on its website. The Marblehead Fire Department and the harbor master are still investigating the cause of the fire.

Marblehead Fire Department officials were called to a barge near the mouth of the harbor around 1 a.m. Thursday morning, fire officials said.
The Harbor Master, Beverly Fire Department, State Environmental Police and the U.S. Coast Guard were all on scene to fight the fire.
