An American Airlines flight to New Hampshire was forced to make an emergency landing Wednesday after a disruptive passenger exposed himself and urinated in the aisle of the plane, officials said.

The 25-year-old Oregon man was arrested and charged with indecent exposure after the plane, which had departed from Buffalo, returned to Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

He was released after making an initial appearance in federal court in Buffalo, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York.

Fortunately, the plane was able to depart Buffalo shortly after the incident, American Airlines said in a statement.

“We thank our team members for their professionalism and our customers for their understanding,” the airline wrote.

The passenger told police he was flying from Portland, Oregon, to Manchester, New Hampshire, and that he had consumed several shots of whiskey and coke before boarding the first flight. Authorities said he drank more during a stopover in Chicago.

During the flight from Buffalo, he got up to use the restroom and walked back to his seat when he claimed he had a “medical urinary problem,” the criminal complaint said.
