Pursuit: Prius driver rams gate during San Fernando Valley chase

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A suspect drove a Toyota Prius through a fence and fled from police with a smashed windshield during a dangerous chase through the San Fernando Valley on Thursday night.

After fleeing across the public road and the 5 Freeway, the chase ended in the Sunland neighborhood, where the suspect abandoned the car and hid in a nearby neighborhood.

The suspect was seen sneaking into a garage. A search for the suspect ensued and it appears that police are still looking for him.

AIR7 was above the chase just before 8:00 p.m.

The chase ended in the area of Wyngate Street and Sunland Boulevard, when the suspect stopped at a locked gate and ran from police.

It is unclear whether the suspect was familiar with the unit he sneaked into.

The Prius is the same vehicle that police were following earlier in the day. In that case, Los Angeles police were following the car, and later Burbank police were following it before retreating.
