Red Prius Leads Police on Two Separate Chases on July 4 – NBC Los Angeles

The driver of a stolen red Toyota Prius led authorities on a reckless chase through the San Fernando Valley Thursday night.

San Fernando police began a pursuit just after 7 p.m. after the driver refused to stop.

The vehicle was traveling with a broken windshield after the driver entered a dead-end street in an industrial area in Arleta and drove through a yellow gate.

The battered red Prius reached speeds of more than 100 mph on the highway and collided with other vehicles several times.

The chase ended in a gated community in Sunland, where the suspect was able to slip inside and engage in a footrace with officers.

The driver was arrested and charged with misdemeanor driving, reckless driving and eluding police.

The red Prius was part of an earlier pursuit in which officers in patrol SUVs joined the chase as a safety precaution, the LAPD confirmed.
